There have been many novels written about the last days of civilization as we know it, but in Until the World Ends, David M. Jenkins presents readers with a unique twist, blending Biblical prophesy with frightening science-fiction, that has one foot firmly rooted in possible reality. What is so absolutely frightening of Jenkins' premise for an end to civilization is how close it could actually be. As we continue to fiddle with the natural world, we come closer and closer to developing a virus like the one in Jenkins' world. Through the tale, the author provides us all with the opportunity to reflect on what cost we may be paying for certain "advances" and serves as a warning that perhaps we should not look so much at playing God. The best of Science-Fiction and Fantasy will challenge readers to think, not so much about the future, but about the present and its impacts on the future. Jenkins books is certainly in the category of one of the best books blending the themes of Science-Fiction and Fantasy with Christian beliefs.
Still, the book would not be successful if it were just a diatribe preaching to readers about the dangers of too much scientific meddling. Jenkins does so by clothing his warning in a smart, action-packed adventure of Jessie Cliff who goes from feeling he is the sole survivor of the end of the world to becoming a leader of those who have survived. Cliff is an intriguing and likeable character who readers will find themselves quickly warming up to. In the early parts of the work when Cliff is alone, following the loss of his family, Jenkins does an excellent job of portraying the tremendous tole on a person's psyche that such aloneness would create. Once other survivors find Cliff, Jenkins introduces the idea of Cliff as the second coming of Jesus Christ. Jenkins, however, never has Cliff abandon very real reactions to that news and the coming to terms with its implications. By retaining the human elements of his main character, Jenkins manages to further engage the reader's interest and emotions. All in all, Until the World Ends is a smart, fast-paced and unique adventure that readers will find hard to put down.

Never heard of this author but what an awesome page turner - you gotta read this one - you will be hearing about this guy soon!
Good read. I normally don't post on books that I've read but this one was really a good story. If you like a little suspense, a little romance and an interesting biblical angle on the "end of the world" get this book. It really is a good read.
